The Siege of Leningrad, which occurred during World War II, was a prolonged military blockade undertaken by German and Finnish forces against the city of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in the Soviet Union. Lasting for 872 days. During the siege, Leningrad suffered severe food and fuel shortages, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians due to starvation, exposure, and bombardment. The city's population endured unimaginable hardships, with rationing of food and utilities and the constant threat of air raids and artillery bombardment.
